RE: Kassieparrish: Puppy Training
Thought I might be able to shed some light on this subject.
My dog, too, didn’t like the pads but would go RIGHT NEXT to them. I asked my trainer about it, and she had me pick up/wipe up the mess, then put the paper towel ON the pad & make him smell it. It might feel mean, because they’ll shy away, but hold them there for a sec (I would sit with Hendrix) and make them feel like they’re not in trouble per se, but will get rewarded for going in the right place!! Treats, loves, etc… Then move the pad to THAT spot. Eventually, you should move the pad closer and closer to the door and finally outside. He’s really good now! Took a couple of months… but dogs WANT to go outside, it’s natural in the grass for them.
I hope this helps!! :) Good Luck!
Any hints on how to make a puppy not potty on the floor? We tried puppy pads and he doesn’t like them, and then a dog litter box and still didn’t like them. The thing is he is going right next to the litter box, or very close. What is up with that?
